The latest figures show that the number of lone parents on JSA has fallen, across the board. By age, age of youngest child, region, ethnicity and for both women and men.
Overall there were 5,415 fewer lone parents on JSA in November 2013 than in October of the same year and 27,000 fewer than in November 2012.
There are some concerns that some people are falling off the system due to sanctioning policy, but the figures give no indication as to where people go when they leave JSA.
Overall though it is very positive news and the percentage fall in the number of lone parents is similar to that of JSA claimants as a whole.
