Lone Parents to start preparing for work once their youngest child is 3

In the recent spending review George Osborne moved  to expand conditionality on Lone Parents on Income Support to say that they need to be preparing for work as soon as their youngest child in 3.

No guidance has been issued as yet to make clear what the preparation might be – but it is likely to include building confidence, taking vocational courses and if necessary improving their English.

Lone parents will not be expected to work before their youngest child is five.
